Project overview

The Challenge

Our main challenge during this exchange program between THI (Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt) and the Universidad del Bosque was to look closely at the cultural differences and commonalities between Germany and Colombia. Working together in cross-cultural teams, we needed to find a way to translate these rich cultural insights into a striking visual poster celebrating UNESCO World Heritage Day.

The Goal

We wanted to take the ideas from our collaborative design workshop and bring them to life in a traveling exhibition across three German cities. Focused on UNESCO World Heritage Day, the exhibition aimed to spotlight Bogotá's unique cultural and historical heritage. The ultimate goal was to spark curiosity and inspire German students and professors to visit Bogotá and kickstart future shared projects between our universities.

The Strategy

To capture Colombia's vibrant culture, we started with shared workshops and cultural activities alongside THI students and lecturers. After this initial teamwork and research phase, the project shifted to an individual focus. Every student took the collective insights and developed their own creative concept from scratch — each of us individually responsible for creating a unique poster, designing a website and app homescreen, and developing two distinct sets of icons.

  • The Handcrafted Approach: To lean into Colombia's lush, nature-rich environment and world-famous coffee culture, I chose a hand-drawn style with organic lines and a warm palette inspired by rich coffee tones for an authentic, earthy feel.
  • The AI-Assisted Approach: To capture the warmth, openness, and vibrant culture of the Colombian people, I used AI tools to experiment with bright, vivid colors while maintaining a sleek, modern touch.
  • The Final Direction: I ultimately chose the hand-drawn icon set for the final website and app designs — it provided a much deeper sense of authenticity and better represented the rich cultural heritage we were celebrating.

Deliverables

  • UNESCO World Heritage Poster: My final, standalone poster exploring the cultural connections and heritage of Bogotá for the traveling exhibition.
  • Website Design: My individual layout and user interface concept for the project's website.
  • App Homescreen: The main dashboard and landing interface designed for the companion mobile app.
  • Two Icon Sets: A hand-drawn, coffee-toned icon set alongside a bright, modern AI-generated icon set, both tailored to fit the website and app.

Outcome & Impact

The project came together in a successful traveling exhibition that built a creative bridge between Germany and Colombia. Ultimately, the exhibition put Bogotá's heritage on the map for the German academic community, getting both students and faculty genuinely excited about future international partnerships.
